SARS Coronavirus
Storage and transport of SARS-CoV samples

(Author: P. Herman) (Last revised: February 28, 2006 )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- All samples should be stored in frozen conditions in locked freezers with a restricted entrance before handling or transportation.
- All biological samples (clinical specimen, cell culture) must be packed in a double packing during transport in the facility. Primary leak proof receptacles shall be packed in secondary packings in such a way that, under normal conditions of transport, they cannot break, be punctured or leak their contents into the secondary packaging.
- For transportation outside the facility, the samples associated with SARS should be packed in a triple packing according to the current edition of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations.
