Host organism: Brassica napus (Oilseed rape)

fungal disease resistance, herbicide tolerance (glufosinate)

Project title:
Field evaluation of genetically modified, fungal disease resistant oilseed rape
Plant Genetic Systems
Year(s) of release:
Effective year(s) of release:
Period of release:
Spring oilseed rape: April-October Winter oilseed rape: August-September (1999-2000)
Afsnee (PGS farm)
Number of sites:
Total surface:
Spring: 3400 m2 (destroyed) / winter: 6800 m2
Containment measures:

An isolation distance of 400 m to other commercial oilseed rape cultures as well as a non-transgenic border (pollen trap) of 6 m will be guaranteed to reduce gene flux. Also cleaning of the seed drill before and after sowing will be done. The seeds will be harvested before complete maturity. Wild relatives near the release site will be destroyed as well as the vegetative material at the end of the experiment. Destruction of shed seed by herbicide or shallow cultivation.

Monitoring measures:

The field sites will be monitored during 2 years with the destruction of volunteer oilseed rape and wild relatives.

- The Biosafety Advisory Council a.i. issued a positive advice (with conditions) for this field trial.- Authorization procedure completed. The notifier was granted authorization from the Federal Minister to perform the trial.

Type of procedure:
Classical procedure - Art. 9§1 of Royal Decree of 18 December 1998

The trial with spring oilseed rape had to be destroyed because of non-compliance with the authorization conditions. Harvest must be done before complete ripening of the crop to reduce seed loss.
