B/BE/26/V1 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of field-specific maize genes Modification of three genes expressed under field conditions
B/BE/25/V1 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with improved yield Improved yield
B/BE/24/V3 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with improved digestibility The genetically modified maize plants have an altered composition of their cell wall resulting from the presence of mutations in three genes involved in the biosynthesis of lignin.
B/BE/24/V2 VIB Poplar Field evaluation of poplars with a modified wood composition

The genetically modified trees have an altered wood composition

B/BE/24/V1 VIB Poplar Field evaluation of poplars with a decreased lignin content Wood with decreased lignin content
B/BE/22/V3 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with modified growth characteristics The genetically modified maize plants have a mutation in the gene coding for a histon linker protein which leads to the inactivation of the gene. As a result, the plants have a significantly better growth during periods of drought.
B/BE/22/V1 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with increased resistance against DNA damage causing environmental stress The genetically modified maize plants have a significantly better growth under environmental stress conditions that lead to DNA damage.
B/BE/21/V1 VIB Poplar Field evaluation of poplars with a modified wood composition Altered wood composition (less lignin and more cellulose) resulting from the downregulation of the Caffeoyl Shikimate Esterase (CSE) enzyme through RNAi.
B/BE/20/V1 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with modified growth characteristics Modified growth characteristics resulting from the additional expression of the AN3 gene under the control of the EF1a promoter. This gene is a transcriptional co-activator that is involved in the regulation of cell proliferation. As a result of the modification the duration of growth is elongated which results in the formation of larger plant organs such as larger leaves. It is also results in the formation of more biomass.
B/BE/19/V1 VIB Maize Wetenschappelijk veldonderzoek naar maïs als biosensor voor het meten van DNA-schade als gevolg van milieustress The maize plants have been edited using the CRISPR/Cas9 system resulting in the mutation of either the ATR or ATM gene. There are three events: one event with one additional DNA basepair in the ATR gene, one event with one additional DNA basepair in the ATM gene and one event with a 1272 bp deletion in the ATR gene. The result of these alterations is that these genes are no longer functional. The ATR and ATM genes gene plays a role in the repair of DNA damage and in these plants faults in the DNA are believed to accumulate to a higher degree.
B/BE/18/V8 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with an impaired DNA-repair mechanism and maize with modified growth characteristics Maize plants edited using the CRISPR/Cas9 system resulting in a single base pair mutation in either the ALT gene (that plays a role in the repair of DNA damage) or the NGAL2 gene (a transcription factor that has been shown to negatively affect the expression of the PLA1 gene coding for a cytochrome P450 mono-oxygenase enzyme).
B/BE/17/V3 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with modified growth characteristics Modified growth characteristics resulting from the additional expression of two genes: (1) the GA20oxidase under the control of a pUBIL promoter and (2) the PLA1 gene (also known as the ‘KLUH’ gene, or CYP78A1 gene) under the control of the GA2oxidase promoter
B/BE/14/V2 VIB Maize Scientific field evaluation of maize with modified growth characteristics Modified growth characteristics resulting from the additional expression of the CYP78A1 gene (encoding cytochrome P450 mono-oxygenase) under the control of the GA2oxidase promoter
B/BE/13/V1 VIB Grey poplar Field evaluation of poplars with a modified wood composition modified lignin
B/BE/11/V4 VIB Maize Scientific field research using maize that has altered growth characteristics Altered growth characteristics resulting from the introduction of a Ga20Oxidase-1 gene
B/BE/10/V1 University of Ghent Potato Two year field trial with genetically modified potatoes that are less susceptible to late blight Decreased susceptibility to late blight
B/BE/07/V2 VIB Poplar Field evaluation of poplars with an altered wood composition for the production of bio-ethanol modified lignin
